“I have been this woman before” - Khanyi Mbau

This time she’s in the spotlight for a good cause. Khanyi Mbau is one of three leading women actresses in the newly circulating SA movie ‘Happiness is a four letter word’ - a story line which was adapted from a novel.

Also in the lead are SA actresses Mmabatho Montsho and Renate Stuurman. The movie is directed by a young South African hotshot director, Thabang Moleya. Mbau plays Zaza; a housewife married to a successful property developer.

Speaking to The Midweek Sun Mbau explains that in this case art is imitating her life. “I have been this woman before, although I was slightly younger,” she adds referring to her past when she was dubbed a ‘gold digger’ for her penchant for older men with loads of cash.

She is adamant that majority of women want a man with money. “Women want to be taken care of and are gunning to get a rich guy to take care of them,” she says. As an actress she feels she served the role the justice it deserved. “I gave it my all. I portrayed the character as stipulated,” adds Mbau.
